Scarred Not Silent: Stories from the intersections of survival

The Gift of Showing Up: Lessons from a Christmas Fishing Session

Rodney Washington Season 2 Episode 40

Even on days when my body asks me to slow down, my heart still leans toward connection.

In this special holiday episode, I show up not at my strongest, but with intention. With Christmas approaching, I share a simple yet meaningful moment that unfolded during a fishing coaching session arranged by my wife. What began as a thoughtful gesture became a reminder of why fishing has always mattered to me.

I have been fishing since I was five. Every cast has offered space to think, to grow, and to make sense of life as it unfolded around me. Fishing has never just been about the catch. It has been about patience, reflection, and learning how to sit with what is.

As the year winds down, this episode offers a quiet invitation to slow the pace, honor joy wherever it may be found, and recognize the shared humanity that binds us, especially during this time of year. I also share that this will be my final episode before Christmas, offering gratitude to you for being part of this journey.

Sometimes showing up is the gift.
